European Union Award for Contemporary Music
The European Commission encourages and recognises emerging artists' success in popular music through the annual European Border Breakers Awards (EBBAs).
The European Commission believes that the access to new music and its circulation are crucial for artists' capacity to build audiences in a wider European context. The Commission acknowledges that the European music sector contributes to economies, together with other creative industries.
The EBBAs reward emerging artists or groups successful in their field. The winners of the latest edition include Irish artist James Vincent McMarrow. An awards ceremony will be hosted by British musician and broadcaster Jools Holland on the opening night of the Eurosonic festival in Groningen, Netherlands, on 11 January 2012.
