The Hare’s Corner – Seeding and Stimulating Drama as Gaeilge

Irish language stage artists recently met to participate in the Hare’s Corner, a project funded under the Invitation to Collaboration Scheme that allows practitioners to improve their practice and share ideas with each other.

Between actors, directors, dancers, writers and theatre, the group spent a period in Gaoth Dobhair with well-known drama company Song of the Goat from Poland and a week in Cork, working with actor and writer Feidlim Cannon from Brokentalkers.

The Hare’s Corner aims to create space for Irish language artists to develop their creativity, develop ideas, try new methods of practice and co-operate with other professional actors working on a professional basis.

Partners in the project include Ealaín na Gaeltachta (Teo), Donegal County Council, Centre of Production and Drama Center at NUIG and Galway City Council. Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo artist in residence, Beartla M. Ó Flatharta said that the experience will contribute to his own practice as a dramatist.

"It is a great honour for me to be involved in this project. There is and has been a great need for such a proposal to put more energy into promoting Irish-language drama in the Gaeltacht and among the Irish language community.
