Information Clinic on Authored Works and Reel Art 2018

As part of its new film policy, the Arts Council is introducing a new film initiative, Authored Works, to support the making of artist-led authored films for cinema exhibition. In addition, the Arts Council’s long-running arts documentary award, Reel Art, sees an increase in its budget. Guidelines and details of the application process are available on the Arts Council website from 1 August.

Prospective applicants for both of these awards will be invited to attend an information session where representatives from the Arts Council will discuss the award and answer questions. Further details will be posted on the Arts Council’s website http://www.artscouncil.ie/Arts-in-Ireland/Film/, on social media and in our September newsletter.

In the meantime, those interested in attending should register their interest by emailing Jennifer Lawless at jennifer.lawless@artscouncil.ie by 7 September.

Authored Works

The purpose of Authored Works is to provide film artists with the creative and editorial freedom to make a feature-length cultural film work from a strong artistic point of view. One film will be supported in 2018. A total fund of €200,000 will be made available to the successful applicant (to include a production budget of €185,000 and further exhibition support of €15,000). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The film must be completed to premiere at the Irish Film Institute, our exhibition partner, at an agreed date in 2020.

Reel Art

The purpose of Reel Art is to provide film artists with the opportunity to make highly creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme for cinema exhibition. Two films will be supported in 2018. A total fund of €102,500 will be made available to each of the successful applicants (to include a production budget of €90,000 and further exhibition support of €12,500). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The films must be completed to premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival, our exhibition partner, in February 2020.

Applications for Reel Art and Authrored Works 2018 must be made directly to the Arts Council before 1730 on Thursday, 11 October 2018.
