Location One is a not-for-profit art centre in New York devoted to convergence between visual, performing and digital arts. It operates an international residency programme where emerging and established artists can experiment with new forms of artistic expression, particularly those involving new technologies.

The Arts Council offers an annual fellowship to one artist to facilitate his/her participation in the international residency programme at Location One for 10 months, in order to develop his/her practice and create new work. In addition to the studio space, support and resources provided through Location One, the fellowship includes accommodation and a monthly stipend. The overall value of the award is in the region of €37,000.

The recipient of this year’s award, Jesse Jones, is a Dublin-based artist.  She has a BA from NCAD (2002) and an MA in visual arts practice from the DLIADT (2005). Jesse Jones’s practice focuses on the embedded political and social history within everyday life. She is interested in the moments when this hidden history comes to the surface, such as in a demonstration or strike, and in moments of convergence. Seeing popular culture as an expression of this collective narrative of history, her work often adopts elements such as the B movie or pop music as a site of shared memory.

Having recently completed a residency at the Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin, Jesse is currently in residence at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Melbourne, Australia. Her upcoming exhibitions include, Red Thread, Tanas, Berlin and The 11th International Istanbul Biennial.
