Welcome to the September edition of our newsletter

This summer some in the arts have had a well-deserved holiday. Many more, however, have worked with great imagination and commitment to ensure that as communities around the country came into-festival, visitors and locals alike enjoyed an art experiences that were accessible and memorable.

I am delighted to tell you that the Arts Council will this month launch a new version of Culturefox, our online guide to Irish cultural events. We’ve made some major improvements that we believe will make this app more user friendly for both audiences and arts organisations. It has a beautiful, contemporary look-and-feel to showcase events; it uses cutting-edge technology so it is lightning-fast whether on mobile device or desktop; and best of all, people can customise it for their own cultural interests. It will even send you an e-mail to remind you that you are about to miss an arts event you’re interested in attending!.

The Arts Council is deeply appreciative of the level of engagement received in completing the recent published strategic review. The Council will begin considering the findings and proposals in the autumn. A key outcome and one of the most rewarding and enlightening elements of the review process was the presentation of insights from the qualitative research we did with small groups made up of members of the public around the country. We think many people involved in the arts would be interested in the results of this research, so we’ve asked Pathfinder Research, who conducted the research, to prepare a presentation which we will be inviting those in the sector to hear for themselves in Galway and Dublin later this month.

And finally, the Arts Council's application window for our main revenue grants programmes (i.e. for Regularly Funded Organisations, Annual Funding and Annual Programming Grants) will open on 10 September and close on 10 October. Please be aware that we will be unable to accept applications after 5.30pm on 10 October 2014.

Yours sincerely,

Orlaith McBride
