Sixty six small festivals/events supported under round one of Small Festivals Scheme
The Small Festivals scheme is aimed, in the main, at locally-based events and festivals seeking Arts Council funding. The awards offered may be used for one-off events or for a programme of festival activities. Sixty six small festivals and events have been awarded funding for 2012 under the Small Festivals Scheme (Round One). A total of €401,650 has been awarded to 66 festivals - from Dingle to Drogheda, from Kanturk to Clifden - from 122 applications received. The total value of the funding sought by all 122 applicants was €1.5m The average grant awarded to successful applicants in this round was €6,086. Some festivals receiving support (for the first time) include Lismore Music Festival, UCD Imagine Science Film Festival and the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival. Orlaith McBride, Director of the Arts Council, said: "Festivals and events make an important contribution to the social and cultural aspects of community life and with some new festivals receiving funding in this round, more opportunities will be created next year for people to experience the arts within their own communities."
