9. International news from the Cultural Contact Point

Information event on the European Culture Programme for traditional arts organisations and practitioners: Thursday, 21 October at 11 am in the Arts Council

The Cultural Contact Point, in collaboration with the traditional arts team are holding an information event in the Arts Council on 21 October from 11am to 2pm.

The Culture Programme provides funding to organisations for projects and operating grants.

Project funding is available for trans-national co-operation projects, literary translations and festivals. Operating grants are available for organisations which operate on a European level.

This information day will address all of the programme's priorities and will also provide details on funding opportunities relevant to traditional arts practitioners under the Culture Programme in 2010.

Facilitating the meeting will be Niamh McCabe and Louise Duggan (Cultural Contact Point, Ireland) along with the traditional arts team and guest speakers.

Minister Gormley launches publication Ireland & Europe - The European Union at Local & Regional Level in Ireland

The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley, TD launched the publication, Ireland & Europe - The European Union at Local & Regional Level in Ireland at the European Union House this month.

This new publication examines the impact of the European Union at a regional level and looks at examples across Ireland of successful projects that have enriched daily economic and social life. It not only covers historic structural funding but also support for the preservation of the Irish environment and the finance of vital community based schemes.

Also speaking at the event were Mr. Martin Territt, Director of the European Commission Representation in Ireland, Cllr. Jim Holloway, Chairman of the Association of Irish Regions and Mr. Tom Byrne, Director of the South-East Regional Authority.

Culture Night  - European Commission

As part of Culture Night, which took place on 24 September, the European Commission presented two photography exhibitions, one from the Austrian Embassy and the other from the Czech Embassy at European Union House.
