Creative Place Programme Research

The Arts Council has begun the research phase of a new Creative Place programme which is intended to be rolled out in 2018. The programme will enable more communities to choose, join in and generate remarkable arts experiences in the places where they live.

It is imagined that the programme will be developed in places where people have fewer opportunities to get involved in creative activities. It is a commitment in our 3 year plan to develop and invest in a partnership programme which will enable particular communities and places to benefit from long term engagement in the arts and to measure the impact of this investment over time. Kath Gorman has been contracted to conduct the research phase, which involves looking at national and international comparative programmes and gaining insight from a cross section of local community, social and cultural service providers.

As part of this research, two focus groups will take place in September, in which those with particular local arts, social and community development expertise will be invited to contribute their experience towards the shape of the programme before it is fully developed.  Each meeting will include a creative place story local to the venue.

Tuesday 26 September, 11am to 1pm, Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre, Dublin

Thursday 28 September, 2pm to 4pm, Askea Parish Centre, Carlow

If you feel you can contribute a particular expertise and insight and would like to join one of these focus groups, please email Kath Gorman with your expression of interest.  creativeplacesresearch@gmail.com
