The Arts Council is partnering with a number of institutions to provide Initial Teacher Education for primary school teachers in Ireland

The Arts Council is delighted to partner with a number of institutions providing Initial Teacher Education for primary school teachers in Ireland to support artists-in-residence across various disciplines, beginning in September 2017. Calls for artists will be issued by partner institutions over the coming weeks and will be publicised on www.artsineducation.ie

The aims of the residencies are to:

  • provide future teachers with opportunities to engage meaningfully with the arts as part of their initial teacher education
  • support future teachers to develop the skills and confidence to facilitate meaningful arts experiences for their students, and to champion the arts in schools
  • provide opportunities for artists to develop their skills and experience in education settings, and to develop their artistic work in a collaborative and supportive environment

Each residency will have a specific art form focus, and will be shaped by the selected artist in collaboration with the staff and students at the host institution. Further information on individual residencies will be available from each institution. The residencies are likely to be of interest to artists with a track record in their art form; an interest in creating work with or for children; and an interest in developing their practice in an education setting.
