Deis continues to assist the traditional arts sector in delivering a range of projects and initiatives which aim to contribute to the preservation, promotion and transmission of our traditional music, song, dance and oral traditions.
Throughout 2011 the Arts Council received 107 Deis submissions from the traditional arts sector with 48 proposals receiving funding (to date) to the amount of €304,634.
Some examples of activity funded through the Deis Scheme in 2011 are The Steeple Sessions, a new series of Irish traditional music concerts at the Unitarian Church on St Stephen's Green in Dublin; the Cullen Pipe Band, - to engage with instructors from Scotland and Ireland to enhance their bag piping and drumming technique and the Dublin Yarn Spinners - towards a series of events to offer Irish audiences an opportunity to engage with storytelling in the Traveller heritage.
The Deis Scheme has recently received applications for its sixth and final round for 2011.
