Welcome to the October edition of our Newsletter
I’m happy and proud to say that our new strategy, Making Great Art Work, is now published setting out the co-ordinates for the development of the arts in the decade 2016-2025. But in many ways, our work is only beginning. Our strategy is ambitious. It sets out a vision for the arts in Ireland, prioritising the artist and public engagement, placing a new emphasis on demographic and spatial planning as well as outlining a new investment strategy to support our decision making in the years ahead. It also outlines how vital it is that the Arts Council and the broader sector have the skills, knowledge and capacity to realise the strategy. The next stage in the strategy process is to develop the first accompanying detailed plan 2017-2019.
To deliver this plan we first need to listen to our partners and stakeholders and hear your views on the strategy. We will be hosting a series of workshops, and opening an online forum, to gather responses to the strategy. We plan to conduct Strategy Forums in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Wexford over a period of four weeks from 29 October. The online forum will be open during this time.
I will have more details about this programme of dialogue and engagement on my blog on the Arts Council website, and in next month’s Newsletter.
