Welcome to the May edition of the Arts Council newsletter

This month we announce the recipients from the first round of the Artist in the Community Scheme 2011. Twice a year, the Arts Council offers a grant to enable artists and communities of place and/or interest to work together on projects. We have also published decisions for round two of the Small Festivals Scheme for 2011. A total of 81 festivals and events throughout the country were awarded funding. This will help animate and breathe life into communities throughout the country.

In addition, the Arts Council announces the closing date for the next round of Bursary Awards. The deadline for the next round of Bursary Awards is Thursday 14 July, 2011 at 5.30pm. The Arts Council provides Bursary Awards in order to assist individual artists in the development of their arts practice.

Also, included in our newsletter, we have information on the upcoming deadline for the Arts and Disability Awards Scheme. It is open to individual artists of any impairment type living on the island of Ireland. Activity in any of the arts disciplines is eligible and disability access requirements linked to artistic activity will be considered.

A reminder on the deadline for the next round of the closing date for the Deis scheme 2011, 5:30pm, Thursday 9 June, is included in this edition. Deis is open to individuals, groups, bands and organisations. Applications for projects involving activity addressing cultural diversity are welcomed.

The newsletter rounds off with our regular article on news from the arts community.
