Further round of EU cultural co-operation with Mexico
announced
Results are out of a first phase of awards under the umbrella of
co-operation between the EU and Mexico. On foot of this, a
second phase has been announced, with a fund of approximately
€6.8 million created equally by the EU and the Mexican
government, which will be administrated by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y
las Artes /National Council for Culture and the Arts calls for
proposals pending.

EU Cultural Co-operation with Russia
A number of cultural projects have been supported through a
co-operative programme between Russia and the EU called:
'Institution Building Partnership Programme (IBPP) - Support to
Civil Society and Local Initiatives'.

Next deadline for EU Youth in Action Programme, 1 April
2009
There are a range of supports under the umbrella of the 'EU
Youth in Action Programme' for initiatives such youth exchanges,
and training and networking for those involved in youth support
services. Application for many of the actions are made
directly to the National Agency for the Youth in Action Programme.
In Ireland the National Agency is Léargas. The next
deadlines are 1 April 2009 for activities planned to take place
between 1 July and 30 November 2009; and 1 June 2009 for activities
planned to take place between 1 September 2009 and 31 January
2010.

Call for proposals for 'Preparatory Actions MEDIA
International', deadline 2 June 2009
Part of the overall EU MEDIA Programme, 'Preparatory Actions
MEDIA International' is intended to examine and test co-operation
activities between European film professionals and professionals in
'third countries' (countries beyond those European countries
normally participating in the MEDIA Programme). It will cover
co-operative initiatives in relation to training, distribution,
promotion, development of cinema networks, and increasing audience
demand.

Finalists announced for Mies van der Rohe Award
2009
Five projects have been shortlisted for the European Union Prize
for Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award in 2009. Finalists
include: Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, Tarald Lundevall and Craig
Dykers of Snøhetta, Norway, for the
Norwegian Opera
and Ballet, Oslo; and Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell of Grafton Architects,
Ireland, for the University Luigi Bocconi, Milan.

Brussels
DG Education and Culture in the European Commission is running
an information day about European Capitals of Culture. Countries
already selected until the year 2019 include Netherlands, Malta,
Cyprus, Denmark, Italy and Bulgaria. The registration
deadline for the info day is 15 April 2009.

joint position paper on Creativity and
Innovation
The European League of Institutes for the Arts (art schools) and
the European Association of Conservatoires and Music Academies have
launched a short position
paper to draw attention to the artistic dimensions of
creativity and innovation and focus on the role the arts can play
in fostering creativity and innovation in our societies.

Bratislava
The next full meeting of the IETM international network for
contemporary performing arts is co-hosted by Divadelná Nitra festival, Slovenské Národné
Divadlo / the Slovak National Theatre, Divadelný ústav
Bratislava / the Theatre Institute, Asociácia Bratislava v Pohybe
/ Bratislava in Movement Association, the City of Bratislava, and the European Cultural
Contact Point Slovakia.
The general theme for the meeting is culture and
education. Beyond the general theme, there will be a
programme of discussion groups and training workshops and
information sessions on many different topics. There is a 'newsround'
session where participants can briefly present their organisations
and projects, and also more indepth 'brainstorm'
sessions, where participants may present information about a
current or prospective project and gather advice and contacts from
other participants regarding their project development. There
will be a full artistic programme, and many opportunities for
informal networking.

International Conference of National Trusts, September
2009, Ireland
An Taisce - the National Trust for Ireland will host the 13th
International Conference of National Trusts on 13 - 17
September 2009. The conference will involve over 300
delegates in working sessions to be held in Dublin Castle
interspersed by local site visits. There will also be
optional longer site visits following the main dates of the
conference. The overall theme is 'Heritage of the World in
Trust: Conservation in a Changing Climate'.
