The Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal competition is open to pipers and harpers this year, and competition organiser Peadar Ó Riada will be accepting entries from now until Friday 16 October.
The Bonn Óir Seán Ó Riada competition is organised every year by Peadar Ó Riada through his Cuireadh chun Ceoil music programme on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. The winner receives the bespoke gold medal and a cash prize of €2500, and this year there will be two winners, one in each instrument category of pipes and harp.
To enter, musicians should record 5 pieces of music, without accompaniment, and upload them to www.cuireadhchunceoil.ie by the closing date of 16 October.
The shortlist will be announced in early December, and the shortlisted musicians will be invited to compete in the final on Friday 5 February, to be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta from the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork.
You can enter the competition and find further information at www.cuireadhchunceoil.ie
The competition is sponsored by RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Iontaobhas Fódhla, Gael Linn, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, IMRO and the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork.
