What Next: Dive In, Discover Dance

What Next encourages audiences to sample something different in the form of a new and engaging line up of events. The festival provides a programme of fresh and evocative interactions and shows with a new generation of artists on the cusp of establishing their choreographic voices. There are 3 programmes to discover:

Programme 1 | Dance Limerick Performance Space | Fri 9 Feb | 7:30pm

Kudoku by Danielle Ninarello (Italy), with no name by Isabella Oberländer (Ireland/Austria), Oscillate by Lucia Kickham (Ireland), Folds of the Crane by Justine Cooper (Ireland/New Zealand)

Programme 2 | Dance Limerick Performance Space | Sat 10 Feb | 3pm

Ruby by Tanin Torabi (Ireland/Iran), Begin by Rachel Sheil (Ireland), Abacus by Laura Murphy (Ireland)

Programme 3 | Dance Limerick Performance Space | Sat 10 Feb | 6pm

Sinter by Mary Wycherley (Ireland) in collaboration with Hélène Cathala (France), Alien Express by Žigan Krajnčan and Gašper Kunšek (Slovenia) and Music for Chameleons by Pádraic E. Moore (Ireland).

Closing Party - Music for Chameleons | Dance Limerick Performance Space | Sat 10 Feb | 9pm

Pádraic E. Moore will return to Limerick for the What Next closing party Music for Chameleons. At the core of the project is an extensive collection of singles and LPs from late 20th century musical genres. The music (dating predominantly from the late 70s and early 80s) is unified by the use of electronic components such as drum machines, sequencers and synthesizers. Moore describes the performances as ‘an inclusive interactive happening concerned fundamentally with the politics of pleasure’. What Next invites Limerick audiences to join us, along with the festival artists, to dance together in our Performance Space in John’s Square after a weekend of discovery.

OTHER EVENTS

Let’s Talk About Dance with Jo Slade | Nelly’s Corner, Nicholas Street | Wed 7 & Wed 14 Feb | 7:30pm

Join us in a conversation about contemporary dance and movement. We invite you to participate in a lively, exploratory, informal discussion about the role of contemporary dance and movement as an expressive art form. We will attend some of the performances in the festival with enthusiasm and absorb the subtle language of movement and dance. Later, as a group, we will reflect on our individual responses to the performances. We will consider writing as a vehicle to express those responses, to articulate our experience of the connection between mind and body and how contemporary dance and movement can broaden our understanding of art.

Artists’ Café | Sat 10 February | 12.30–2pm

Meet the artists over a bite to eat. Bring your own lunch, thoughts, observations and questions.
