As many of you know, we have been on the road for the last month conducting a series of Strategy Forums in Wexford, Cork, Sligo, Dublin, Limerick and Galway. These were focused on our new, 10- year strategy, Making Great Art Work, and in particular the initial objectives for prioritization in the first three-year plan.
Almost 1,600 current or recent funding recipients, including artists and organisations, were invited to the forums, as well as an invitation being extended through this newsletter, and I am pleased to say that more than 300 people were able to attend in person. Verbatim reports from each session will be sent to all participants soon. In addition, we gathered a great many responses to the strategy through an online forum on the Arts Council website for the month of November.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated in the forums, whether in person or online. It is very important for us to hear your feedback, and your views will inform the Arts Council’s thinking in the months and years ahead. A summary report of the entire engagement process will be published in the new year.
Separately, there has been an energising and constructive discussion in the arts sector over the last few weeks about gender equality in the arts. The Arts Council is committed to contributing to this discussion with the sector over the coming months to ensure that the issue of equality in the arts is being actively addressed by us all.
