Phelim Donlon tribute

The Arts Council expressed its sadness last month at the passing of former officer Phelim Donlon, an important and much-loved figure in the arts in Ireland. Phelim began work at the Arts Council in 1983, and served as Film, Drama and Opera Officer. He retired in 2001 but continued a passionate advocate for new and emerging talent, serving on the boards of many performing arts organisations. In this appreciation we remember our friend and colleague Phelim Donlon.

National Youth Strategy
The first phase of the consultation for the National Youth Strategy is underway. This initiative is led by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. The Arts Council wishes to encourage any arts organisations working with young people to contribute to the development of the strategy.

The Arts Council announces Round 2 of the 2015 Festivals and Events Scheme (FES). The Festivals and Events Scheme is open to multi-disciplinary festivals, single art form festivals, once-off events and concert series.

Literature Bursary Award Information Clinic

The deadline for the next round of the Arts Council’s Literature Bursary Award (for writers working in English) is Thursday 22 January 2015 at 5.30pm. In advance of this deadline, the Arts Council will hold an information clinic in the Irish Writers' Centre to offer advice and information on the application process.
