This year, for the first time, the Arts Council takes on the stewardship of Culture Night, now in its 15th year. The programme is a mixture of online, broadcast and in person events and experiences taking place right across the country created with the support of local authorities, arts organisations and artists.
In a year full of extraordinary challenges, particularly for the arts sector, the Culture Night experience in 2020 will highlight the value of our artists, cultural organisations and community participation in the arts around the county, who are all working hard to bring cultural experiences to audiences in new ways.
For 2020, the Arts Council has invested into broadening and diversifying audiences and participation in Culture Night further underpinning its Equality, Human Rights and Diversity policy launched last year.
As part of the Arts Council’s offering for Culture Night and in partnership with Children’s Books Ireland's Books Make it Better campaign, we have prepared a special project to promote the joy of opening and reading a book right across the country.
Artists need our support more than ever and the Pay the Artist Policy is to the fore of artists’ participation in Culture Night. On Culture Night, audiences can also see a video of recent artists added to the Arts Council collection who will reflect on diversity within contemporary Ireland.
We look forward to sharing more upcoming highlights in the lead up to Culture Night and you can plan your Culture Night experience here
